John Petejan’s connection to community began long before he settled in East Gwillimbury. His journey to Canada started in 1956, when his family immigrated from Italy and made their first home in Bradford.
Growing up, John learned the value of hard work, respect for others, and the importance of neighbours helping neighbours. He saw firsthand how a strong community can support families through challenges and create opportunities for the future. Those early experiences shaped the values he carries with him today.

Building a Life in York Region
Over the years, John built his life in York Region, raising a family and developing lasting friendships along the way. He and his family were drawn to East Gwillimbury for its small-town atmosphere, strong sense of connection, and welcoming spirit.
Today, John continues to appreciate the slower pace of life, the familiar faces, and the way people look out for one another. For him, community is not just where you live. It is the relationships you build and the support you share.

Giving Back Through Service
John believes that being part of a community means showing up and getting involved. He is an active member of local organizations, including the Holland Landing District Lions Club and the York Regional Amateur Radio Club.
He regularly attends local events, volunteers his time, and looks for ways to support initiatives that bring people together. John sees community involvement as an opportunity to connect with others, learn from different perspectives, and help strengthen the place he calls home.
